#MondayMemories: The Unconditional Love of a Mother

Today’s article is the launch of this blog’s new series called #MondayMemories. This is the time where I bring back the memories from the past, reminisce important events and remember  all those feelings and emotions that have long gone. And for our first entry,  we’ll be giving tribute to our mothers as we have just finished celebrating Mother’s Day yesterday.

Two weeks ago, I was browsing my Facebook timeline when I saw this video entitled “World’s Toughest Job Ever“. At first I ignored it since it didn’t interest me at all. But a week after, I saw it pop up again since most of my friends were sharing it. In my confusion, I played the video and found myself in tears after watching it. I really didn’t expect to be so moved by the message. If you still haven’t seen it, it’s a four minute video clip where you’ll see an interviewer interviewing different candidates for the position of a so called “Director of Operations”.  The job entails  crazy job responsibilities, ridiculous hours and a non existent salary and benefits package. At the end of the video it’s revealed  that the position is actually filled by many moms all over the world. Embarrassing as it may seem, but after watching the video, I headed for the comfort room to cry a little and  text my mom a simple message. “Ma, I love you”.

It’s sad that many times we don’t really appreciate what our mothers have done for us.  We often take them for granted because in our minds, they are our mom and as a mother it is expected of them to take care of their family. Sometimes the saddest part is we end up blaming them for our own shortcomings, failures and even even for our disappointments in life. At one point most of us have wished of having another mother – someone who would be more fit for our needs. What we don’t realize is that what we have and how we were raised is already beyond perfect.

Do you ever stop to think of how excited your mother must have been when you were still in her womb?  Showing her care by eating the right food,  and making sure that she gets enough sleep. She must have tried so hard to set aside stress and problems so that it doesn’t affect your development. Even before you were born to this world, she was already thinking of your sake.  And when you were born, she tried her best to provide everything that you needed. Nursing you to health when you were sick and hurting whenever she saw you in pain. I bet she even wished to trade places with you at some point just so you don’t feel the agony.

Even when we’re grown up and we think that we already know the ways of the world, our moms will always there for all of us. They are aware of our feelings even if we don’t say any words. They know when we have problems and when it’s time to keep silent because they want us to learn and discover life on our own. They’re a new breed of  superwomen who get hurt, but they sometimes choose not to show it.

Because in times of loneliness, they want to become our joy.

In times of hopelessness they are our biggest hope,

and in times of weaknesses they are our strength.

Here’s a video that perfectly describes the unconditional love of our mom towards us:

Just like the lyrics of the song, I just want to say the same thing to my mom that “Mama you know how much I love you, Mama you’re the queen of my heart, your love is like tears from the stars. Mama I just want you to know: Loving you is like food to my soul.”

To my most gorgeous mom in the entire world, Happy Mother’s Day to you.
