An internship is an expersable form of learning that integrates the knowledge and theory learned in the classroom, with practical application and skill development in a professional environment. Internships give students the opportunity to gain valuable applied experience and make connections in professional fields they envision for career paths; and give employers the opportunity to manage and evaluate talent. Three credit hours from the higher division should be earned by pursuing an internship required for the major university credits. What is the deadline for filing internship documents? Health Care Management (HCM) students must complete the Internship/Practicum course (HCMG 4970) as part of the program requirements. This course requires the student to develop individual learning objectives that collaborate with their faculty director and the teachers selected at the beginning of the course. The internship allows students to gain practical skills, increase exposure to specialties, explore arenas they are not familiar with, and apply the theory learned throughout the curriculum. An internship (both credit and non-credit) consists of 150 hours of work completed during a semester. Most students typically complete the necessary time by working 10 to 12 hours per week throughout the semester. In addition to fulfilling the admission requirements and learning objectives, prior to the expiration of the course enrollment period, students must submit a completed internship form (see below) for approval to the Faculty Coordinator in order to be considered for an official internship….
