The new peace agreement is seen as part of a broader peace process to resolve the Tuareg`s long-standing demands for greater autonomy for northern Mali. The force of the Integrated Command Centre, made up of government forces and New Forces personnel, was 587. Of the 587 officers on both sides, 390 were stationed in the former trust zones and 197 in headquarters1. Initially, the parties were unable to agree on the number of Forces Nouvelles Inserther fighters to be integrated into the new forces, or on the rank that was to be made available to New Forces veterans. They finally agreed on the integration of 5,000 New Soldiers into the new armed forces2 Integration should take place within two years.3 5.2. The transitional government works in a spirit of consultation, complementarity and openness to other political forces in Côte d`Ivoire in order to achieve national reunification, disarmament and the organization of open, transparent and democratic elections, as stipulated in the various agreements and resolutions to end the crisis. A transitional government to divide power was formed in a timely manner. On 26 March 2007, rebel leader Guillaume Soro and President Laurent Gbagbo agreed on the formation of a transitional government. Under the agreement, Mr. Soro, who was secretary general of the Armed Forces News, would be prime minister.

Amid deteriorating security and escalating violence in the northern city of Kidal, the ceasefire agreement between the Malian government and warring forces is “an important step in the right direction” to end the ongoing crisis in the West African country, the head of the UN peacekeeping force told the Security Council this morning. The third endorsement set 22 December 2007 as the deadline for the start of the cantonal procedure for the state and the new armed forces. On 24 January, 12,000 soldiers from the defence and security forces were stationed and registered. As of April 1, 2008, only 109 veterans of the new armed forces were still in the canton.1 Of the remaining combatants, only New Forces combatants were to be demobilized. By signing a decree, President Laurent Gbagbo appointed Guillaume Soro as Prime Minister on 29 March 2 Soro took over his responsibilities on 4 April 2007.3 On 7 April 2007, Gbabgo signed a new decree establishing a transitional government composed of 33 ministers. In the transitional government, Forces Nouvelles had seven ministers, while the Ivorian People`s Front (FPI), the president`s party, had nine ministers; The Republicans (RDR) had 5 ministers; Democratic Party of the Ivory-African Democratic Rally (PDCI-RDA) had 5 ministers; The Union for Democracy and Peace in Côte d`Ivoire (UDPCI) had two ministers; the Democratic and Citizens` Union (UDCY), the Ivorian Workers` Party (PIT) and the Movement of Future Forces (AMF) each had a minister; There were two ministers who represented civil society.4 However, the transitional government was dominated by the presidential party, which held the ministries of interior and defence.
